Description

Under the name of FREDBRIM two efficient drugs are brought together, Brimonidine Tartrate and Timolol Maleate. Both are efficient separately in decreasing the ocular pressure but brimonidine tartrate drains the aqueous humour is an added advantage.

MODE OF ACTION- Both, Brimonidine tartrate and Timolol maleate have separate mechanism to control the ocular pressure and are discussed below-:

BRIMONIDINE TARTRATE- Brimonidine stimulates alpha receptors found on the blood vessels that supply the ciliary body. This causes the blood vessels to constrict, and reduces the amount of watery fluid that filters out of the blood vessels to form aqueous humour. Brimonidine therefore works by reducing the inflow of aqueous humour into the eyeball, which decreases the pressure within the eye. It is used to treat conditions where there is raised pressure in the eye, such as glaucoma

TIMOLOL TARTRATE- is a beta blocker that enables the blocking of beta receptors present on cells of different muscles. As an ophthalmic solution it acts on the beta receptors of the ciliary epithelium of the eye and blocks the receptors responsible for the production of aqueous humor (increase in its production causes the increase of the intra ocular pressure resulting in Glaucoma), thus decreasing the pressure.
